Bethel School - Mozambique

The Bethel School in Mozambique is located in a neighborhood called Mafarinha in Dondo City, Sofala Province. At the moment, there are 170 children enrolled in full time school.

The school accepts children 2 years of age upwards, where they are taught reading and writing skills amongst other subjects. There is a preschool and crèche that is run at the same time as the rest of the classes.

The great majority of children are HIV positive, whilst the remainder are affected by HIV. Children affected by HIV are children that one of the parents or both parents have contracted the disease and pass away, leaving the children orphaned living with relatives, specifically grandparents.

Bethel School next project is to open a new school in an area that is the most heavily affected by HIV/Aids in pursuit of helping the children in this area. The challenges are great especially considering that, they need to cover the running cost of the new school and the monthly rent of the buildings. The new school will be located in the neighbourhood of Samora Machel in a beautiful area where the children will have plenty of space to enjoy their school day. The compound, where the school will be located, consists of 2 buildings with 9 and 4 rooms respectively, 2 external meeting halls, an office block with 2 offices, 2 garages, 3 storerooms, 4 wells and a borehole. There are many trees and plenty of space for future development where children can have great and most importantly, be children!
